Description
Fine example of a Chinese export Mandarin basket. Baskets of this form typically having matching underplates (damaged and lost by previous owner) were done in polychrome enamels. These baskets were designed with panels of villages around the rim and family sceneries to the interior basket. Baskets of this form were sold to show the complex nature of the trade between East and West in the mid-1700s. This basket is special as it has the Rockefeller marks.
